Walk/Draw/Stitch
Gillian is a Scottish based artist working primarily in textiles and mixed media.
Walking is central to both her creative process and her personal wellbeing, giving her time to think and observe. As a consequence of walking, she has become increasingly interested in the relationships between movement, mark-making and time. She explores these ideas through drawing and stitch. One step, one mark, one stitch: taken individually, each action is insignificant, but repeated and gathered together, these ordinary everyday gestures become part of a rhythm that connects body, place, and process, forming the foundation of her creative practice.
Gillian’s work investigates the shifting rhythms that emerge as she moves between these media. Each transition generates a new iteration, a new way of seeing and interpreting place and experience. Many of her pieces are constructed from fabrics with history and often coloured or altered by the environment which inspires them. These materials carry memory, grounding the work whilst they are transformed with new narratives.
Gillian’s work has been exhibited in Scotland and further afield, in both textile and art exhibitions. It has also been included several publications. Concurrently, she has a thriving teaching practice, helping students realise their personal ideas on cloth.
Gillian is delighted to join Quilt Art in 2026.
